Nike + iPod - Bringing Interactivity to Running

Check out my run... This is the first run I did. On Sunday, I did a calibration run and yesterday, I prepared to visit the gym to do my first run but left my iPod in the car... so today was a first "run" on the new gadget...
I got to admit, it is a pretty attractive proposition - Nike and iPod in a joint marketing approach - pushed out a branding for Nike+ shoes, together with a whole new product line for shorts and vests which can fit the iPod.
Out of pure fascination and by coincidence, I bought a pair of Nike's three weeks ago. As at 3 weeks, I only managed to use it last weekend. And I am hooked...!!!
Since the KLIM, I promised myself to find a new pair of shoes for my next race - my Nike lasted me for about a year - the shoes were almost following the Nike Free approach, but very light. However, it really put an incredible strain on my sole - so much that the entire KLIM half marathon I ran with a strange creaking sound on my sole, and for a good week or so, I felt my sole when I was wearing flat shoes. I knew I had to look for another shoe....
Thus began my mission to find the most appropriate pair of shoes. From Kell Jay, my runner colleague, he profess by ASICS or New Balance or Saucony - these were apparently the runner's brands. In fact when I went to the New Balance store in 1 Utama, the store assistant impressed me by feeling the arch of my foot and advised me on the possible range which suits me. So, I thought I was going for New Balance, until one tiring day after work, I stumbled upon the Nike+ at the Nike store in KLCC....
The shoe I finally chose was the Air Span+4, and I got hooked to buying the iPod transmitter and receiver module. Check out the shoe at http://www.nikerunning.com.my/.
The shoe has indeed a broader front which enabled my larger foot structure to fit easily without risk of blisters. So far, after about 10km, I am still blister free, so it is looking good...
The Nike+ running online upload is really cool - it has a full analysis and graphical and historical tracking, goals, challenges and a whole community of runners - a brand new interactivity brought to runners, and I still cannot believe how all this is from branding and innovation.
